Examiner's tips for Pure Chemistry

EXAMINER TIPS for Pure Chemistry General Advice 1. It is important that you write your answers in black or dark blue ink. This is because the papers are now marked ‘on-line’ by the examiners [note : on trial for some papers].  For a similar reason, please use a dark black pencil for your drawings. 2. It is very important that you understand the words or phrases used by examiners to get you to answer questions in a particular way. These terms are described in the syllabus in the section Glossary of Terms. You may sometimes lose marks because you do not understand what to write in response to the words ‘explain’, ‘describe’, ‘suggest’ etc. If you are unsure, ask your teacher to tell you what each of these terms means. For example the term ‘explain’ means that you have to refer to some idea or theory and you have to write in detail to say why something happens.
